In 2004 Congress passed the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act. This Act required each school district that participates in the National School Lunch Program adopt a local wellness policy addressing healthy eating and physical activity. The Jackson R2 Board of Education adopted a wellness policy in June 2006. The policy, developed by a committee, relates to the health and well being of the children and staff of the district. The primary objective of the policy is to promote student and staff health and reduce childhood obesity.

The Health and Wellness Committee meets each quarter in the Professional Development Room at the Agriculture and Technology Building (formerly Primary Annex). The committee is comprised of district employees, parents of the district children, and local fitness center employees.

Any person interested in being on the committee can contact the policy facilitator, Dr. Jessica Maxwell at 243-9501 or email [email protected].
