Gordonville PTO

VOLUNTEERS

Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers!  Gordonville is blessed not only with incredible teachers, staff, students, and parents, but with volunteers who want to help make a difference.

We have seen improvements in our students' abilities with the READ program where our volunteers have been working one on one with students.  If you would like to volunteer for this program, please contact the office and ask for Mrs. Criddle.  The READ program is from 12:15-1:00 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday each week.  If you can come for one day or all four, just let us know.

May, 2017

 Dear Gordonville Families,

As the end of the school year approaches, our thoughts drift toward summer and all of the fun activities that we have planned.  I encourage all of our students to enjoy their time off, but to continue learning for fun outside of school.  There are many ways to engage your child in learning that make it fun.

The first way to help support your child’s summer learning is to sign them up for summer school.  This is a free program that only requires parents to provide transportation.  Sessions will be held at East Elementary from June 1st-June 22nd; Kindergarten is June 5th-16th.  Students will be actively learning but in an enjoyable environment.  For more information or an enrollment sheet, please contact our office at 243-9580.

Another way to maintain and continue learning is to read over the summer.  We suggest visiting the library with your child to inquire about summer reading programs designed to motivate readers.  You may also take a break from the hot summer days and check out a local bookstore. For technology-savvy students, you may have them play learning games on electronic devices or PCs.  Simple flash cards can be an easy way to review math facts as well!

In an effort to maintain balanced classrooms, we will be using all available resources, including current and previous teachers’ input, to evenly balance classes.  As a parent of a 2nd grade student leaving Gordonville, should you have any specific educational information you feel we will need to ensure a good placement when your child goes to South, please feel free to contact me during the month of May.  During the summer months, all principals will be collating all class lists.

In early August, students’ placement will be considered finalized and class lists will be sent by email to parents.  Thank you for your understanding and patience.

We had a wonderful turnout for our Math with Moms and Misses event as well as our  STEM Family Night.  Thank you, families, for joining us for these engaging activities.  Your children love seeing you in their classrooms/school helping them learn.

Our April school-wide total attendance was 96.41% with kindergarten having the highest at 97.52%.  All students will be rewarded for meeting our school-wide goal, and Ms. Mendi’s class will get an extra treat for having the highest attendance in April.  Way to go kids!!!

I wanted to take an opportunity to thank our PTO officers for a wonderful year.  A huge thank you goes to Lacey McCallister & Sarah Bandermann for all their hard work.  Thank you, ladies, for all the time you have devoted to our school.

Have an amazing summer,

Shauna Criddle, Principal
