East Elementary Music

In Music, students get to build music literacy through melody & rhythm reading using voices and classroom instruments, music games, and activities. As students enter 3rd grade, their instrument of focus to help develop these skills is on soprano recorder.  They continue to grow in learning this instrument into 4th grade as well, while also learning a second melodic instrument: the soprano ukulele.  All grades explore many different genres and express what they are hearing through body movement and dancing as well as special props such as scarves, ribbons, parachutes, and more!

Each grade level performs one yearly concert to showcase the songs, dances, movement & instrument playing skills we have worked on throughout the school year. This is an opportunity for students to get to tell a themed story through our presentation through doing speaking parts, playing character roles, and using the creative music skills we have learned throughout the year! For concert dates and times, please check our school's monthly newsletter and the classroom teacher's newsletter, which will both contain important information.

There are other opportunities to get to explore your child's singing talents and interest by joining our after school 3rd & 4th grade choir, which performs several times throughout the school year. Look for information about this at the start of the 2018-19 school year!
