East Elementary Library

East's library is a great place for kids to explore, learn, discover and share!

My name is Amanda Bourner, and I am the librarian at East Elementary.  My husband and I live in Jackson with our daughters, who attend Jackson schools.  I previously was a classroom teacher in Kindergarten and 2nd grade for 17 years.

I teach daily library skills and lessons and computer skills.  Students visit our library with their class where they will listen to stories, check out books, and work on computer and keyboarding skills.

During the school year, I will read the Show Me Reader Award Nominees.  The purpose of the Show Me Readers Award is to promote literature, literacy, and reading in Missouri elementary schools and to promote recognition of authors and illustrators of books that are favorites of Missouri children.

Students will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite book. Before the end of the school year, we will find out which book most Missouri students voted for.

Fourth grade students will be introduced to the Mark Twain Award Nominees.  The purpose of the Mark Twain Award is to provide children of Missouri with a recommended reading list of literature that will enrich their lives.  Students can choose to read these books and take a short quiz. Students who pass quizzes for 4 or more of these books are eligible to vote for their favorite.  The winner of this award will be announced before the end of the school year.

The East Elementary Birthday Book Club is an opportunity to celebrate your child's birthday while helping add to our library collection.  For a donation of $15, your child will choose a book from our Birthday Book Club shelf to donate. A sticker with your child's name will be added to the inside cover, and your child will be the first to check out the book.  Forms are available in the library.
