The Jackson R2 Schools are proud to offer Title I reading services to our students in grades first through third.  Our program consists of trained reading teachers going into classrooms and helping classroom teachers implement balanced literacy.  The reading teachers also spend time working with those students who have met eligibility requirements.  The extra help Title I students receive is provided within their classroom setting.

An additional service provided to our first graders is Reading Recovery.  This one-on-one program is designed to help those students who have been identified as being the most at risk for reading failure.  This pull-out program consists of 20 weeks of daily 30 minute lessons.  Parents of children in this program are highly encouraged to come in and observe a lesson and they receive frequent feedback from the reading teacher regarding progress their child is making.

Title I Reading Teachers are available at conference times to review student progress.  The reading teachers are also available during Parent Teacher Conferences in the fall and spring.  Additionally, parents are encouraged to keep in close contact with the reading teachers throughout the year to monitor progress.

While kindergarten students are not eligible for Title I services in the district, they do have trained reading teachers working with classroom teachers within their classrooms.  The teachers work together to build a strong literacy foundation for all students.
