by Sam Duncan

In 2008 we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of football at Jackson High School. Author Nic Antoine has been chronicling the entire history of football in Jackson from its early roots in the late 19th century to the current day and his second book on football history, The Jackson Indians 100 Years of Gridiron Glory, will be released on July 22 at the 100th Homecomers Festival in Jackson. The book recounts over 1,000 games in detail and paints a vivid picture of glorious Friday nights in southeastern Missouri.

Hundreds of photos and great stories are interspersed within the game recaps as well as a heaping portion of stats for the numbers cruncher. The book attempts to deal with the subject of football in Jackson with the same fervor that can be found at “The Pit” every Friday night in autumn. The Jackson R-2 School District will be handling the release and sale of the book with the softbound version costing $25 and the limited edition hardbound version costing $35. Pre-orders are now being taken online.

Billing and payment options will sent to you by email after February 1, 2008 ($35 hardbound, $25 softbound).

Please check the JHS Alumni Web at www.jackson-alumni.org and the Cash-Book Journal often for updates.
